UK and European SSB
#post113
Hi I recently googled SSB radio and came up with an UK advert for a Preseident Jackson 2 stating it had all the Eruopean AM and FM channels but also that it had the facility to operate on the European SSB channels now legal in Spain and France, this could be done just by flicking a switch marked F on the front of the set, is this true can you have one of these sets here in the UK and does it really have this ability?.
& if it's true that SSB is legal in these 2 countries is there any diference between the French SSB channel alocation or are they both on the same frequency block ie mid 40's or low 40's fro example.Smile

These types of “multi band” radios are common these days… all be it… FM and AM until now. And very legal providing you are set to the correct band for the country you are in. that said there is nothing stopping you using it how you want.

The French and Spanish allocations of frequencies are both between 26.565-27.405. This is the same as our “mid block” band

Good god look at that priceSmile

The new Jackson II rig is realy nice but very pricey! and after a little investigation not exactly legal here in the UK because of the type aproval, saying that until the powers that be here in the UK wake up and get inline with the EU CB harmonisation plans we are going to be able to purchase EU type aproval rigs (due to EU trade agreements) but not use them to there full potential, why oh why cant we have ssb at 14w when the 10mt band just above the cb allocation is now deregulated for ametures to use converted cbs on? using ssb at much higher powers and through very high gain antennas!
As cbers we should all know how to use low pass filters and to be quite honest its quite hard to interfere with digital tv signals and modern tv equipment (Ive tried).
The government response to ssb is full of holes and outdated, the only reason I can assume is that they wont get any revenue out of it and wont spend any revenue in regulating it.
Hopefully the EU will eventually pull us out of this doldrum and shake the cobwebs off the apointed UK officials, to say that our bands are congested already is just crazy! have they ever switched on a CB radio? Also does anybody know if the MOD have switched to digital radio yet? if they havnt they cant be useing 27mhz much these days as Im not hearing any strange noises across the band and I live very near one of their main training camps in the north.

I take it all back! strange noises are here! bleeping, poping, blitter, hash at 30+ and strange mobile phone type noises all the way through from 24 up to 28mhz, after talking to a local ham operator there has been local MOD testing of a comunications blanking system at low levels for short periods, I hope they dont turn it up as it realy works lol. Oh well they are still there to be considered.
